Love is in the Air!

and not because Valentine's Day is coming......

I've wanted a tablet for about a year now, and thought I'd wait to see the new Surface by Microsoft 'cause it looks so light and the "click on" keyboard really appealed to me.  So, I started doing research on tablets a couple months ago and passed on the Surface RT, went to the Surface Pro, but found out it was way TOO COSTLY for my budget.

So, I continued with my research, including the Ipad,  and chose the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 with 32GB and got it last Friday!

I'm in love with my new toys and notice the word toys is plural.....lol  You can't just have one piece of Lego...can you?

(sorry...the picture's a bit blurry, and didn't take the time to take it again.)
Got the leather case bluetooth keyboard too.

Also got a Portable 1TB external hard drive for my pc, another SD card, but didn't take pictures of those and haven't played with either of them....yet!

Here's the case/keyboard folded up......not bad!

So, yesterday I decided I wanted the 2nd cover  without the keyboard to put it in my purse on the go, so went and bought this one.  Costly at $60, but thought it would be fine.  NOT!  I worked for about 1/2 hour to fit my tablet in it....and just not going to work, so have to take it back.......drats!  Eventually, I'll find exactly what I want.   (It did say it would fit my Sansung Note 10.1 on the box.)

I hope I can stop playing with my new toys long enough to do some sewing/quilting.   Maybe I'll have to limit myself to playing during my break times and not take my tablet into the sewing room.

What do you think?

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Read All About It!

What picture comes to your mind when you think of quilters?    Do you see the big oak tree with several ladies sitting under its shade, a pitcher of lemonade on a table close by...all working on a patchwork quilt...sewing each stitch by hand...sharing all the "newsy gossip"???

This "picture" of quilters from years gone by is similar to our current quilt bees and quilt guilds of today.  Now, we  have "cyber quilt bees" on the internet.  We share everything we do; our quilts (naturally), but ........also our ideas, questions, sewing tips, our patterns, our fabrics, and our  lives, news of our families, pets, areas where we live, our joys, our sorrows......etc.

I belong to a wonderful "cyber quilt bee" through my Etsy Shop and the team on Etsy....called Quiltsy.  (See the Quiltsy badge on my RH sidebar)  Besides sharing all the things above, we help each other with our Etsy Shops to increase our sales.    Everyday most of us visit our chat discussion on the team for our "social quilt bee" online.  We even have our own Quiltsy Team Blog. so we can share our projects, patterns, and items for sale in our Quiltsy Team Shop.    I invite you to become a follower of the Quiltsy Team Blog.

One of our Quiltsy Team members Karen Jones (aka Tessie Textile)  created an "electronic" quilting newspaper called World Of Quilts Daily.   It's sew fun to get this electronic newspaper totally devoted to quilting.

Today's issue includes a few of my most recent quilted items, so naturally I want to share it.....  (remember....I'm a quilter...and we share!)  LOL  I hope you enjoy reading all about it!   You can subscribe to it too...upper RH corner.

Too Much is Too Much!

Sorry......no pictures this post.  Just gotta explain.

I'm working on so many different things here lately..I just don't have enough time to do it all.   Christmas is coming up and here I am again and not enough time to make all the gifts I had planned.

Does every quilter have problems finding enough time or just me?

Let's try to find out......

1.  Do you like to sew & quilt?

2.  Do you do the grocery shopping?
3.  Do you put away the groceries?
4.  Do you clean out the refrigerator?
5.  Do you do the cooking?
6.  Do you do the dishes?
7.  Do you clean the floors?
8.  Do you do the dusting?
9.  Do you wash the windows?
10.  Do you do the gardening?
11.  Do you take care of kids?
12.  Do you clean up after all of the pets?
13.  Are you the family chauffeur?

We could GO on and on.......couldn't we?  What about the laundry?  What about changing the sheets on the beds?   What about taking time to take a shower?  Go get your hair cut?  or all the shopping?  getting the car washed?

Ok.....that's it!  I'm just GOing to GO back to number 1 and do it!   That's what I'm doing!  What are you GOing to do??

Thanks for visiting!

My Fingers are Worn Out!

Remember that commercial for the Yellow Pages...."let your fingers do the walking through the yellow pages"?

Well, my "quilting fingers" have been walkin' for miles, and they are stretched, a couple of them got lost, they're dirty, and  some are almost worn out.  I won't give them up though....not for anything.   I can just hear some of you.  "What is this crazy woman talking about now?"    Curious now?  Go ahead...... scroll down so you can see the first picture..............go ahead.  I double dare you!

TA DA........Drum roll please!

Presenting.............my "quilting fingers"...

These were bought many years ago and are my original red rubber gripper  fingers for when I do free motion quilting.  There's only 6 of them left.  I used to have more of them for all fingers on both hands.  "Where oh, where, are my  red quilting fingers?"........as she hums to herself.    My cats probably know where they went, but they're not talking.

My secret combination for successful free motion quilting  (it's no secret really.....I just like those words 'cause it makes it sound special ...tee hee)    is:

My Janome 6500 cleaned, oiled, with titanium needle,  FMQ foot, the Supreme Glider for the bed of my machine, AND.....these red rubber fingers!

Red rubber fingers for my left hand ...

Red rubber fingers for right hand...

For the picture taking, have to show you two pictures....(just not smart enough to figure out how to take a picture  showing both hands at the same time....tee hee).  Unlike the quilting gloves, these red rubber fingers don't get in the way, and you can see exactly where you are going.   They really grip the fabric sandwich well too.

So, okay.....you get the idea.   But,  the main thing is  to see the results of the quilting, right?

Free motion meandering.

Continuous design quilting...front.

Continuous design quilting and meandering.....back.

mmmmh! What about the quilting gloves?..you ask.  For me, they are way too hot, too big, too bulky..can't feel the threads to pull them to the top, can't feel the fabrics, they get in the way of seeing well; just don't like them......period!  I tried to use them twice then gave them to a friend.

Now, if I can just remember to buy a couple new sets of "fingers" the next time I'm in my local quilt shop.  Sigh..........sigh.........all the fabrics seem to distract me.

Let's GO again for the FREE GO Giveaway!

How would you  like this free GO cutter by AccuQuilt delivered to your house by the Big Brown Truck??

Then you could GO and cut lots of quilt strips, squares, triangles like these!

Thanks to the great generosity of AccuQuilt, I am able to offer a GO cutter to some lucky winner of my special blog giveaway.  I feel very honored to be able to do this.   AccuQuilt and this machine has completely changed my entire life as a quilter, and I'm very thrilled to be able to give this opportunity to someone else in the quilting world.  To enter GO back one post or click on the picture on my side bar at the right hand top of this page.

It is so exciting to see the number of people who have already entered and complied with the rules of the giveaway.   GOod for you!   AND..today, I feel there is a need to clarify the rules again.  There have been several people who are NOT following the rules and completing all 5 requirements to earn an entry for the Free GO cutter.

Hey,  my friends, this is not rocket science and you don't need a special degree in contests, or quilting, or reading to do this.  It's  sew simple;  GO read, & FOLLOW THE RULES then leave your ONE comment.

If  you think you have already entered, I suggest you GO back & read your comment to make sure you have met all the rules.   In all fairness to those people who have followed and complied with the rules,   it has become necessary for me to disqualify the names of the people who have not/do not follow the rules.    I've tried to send personal emails to those people so they could GO back and edit/delete and do it correctly, but this has become way too time consuming for me to continue doing that.  Hey...boys & girls,  I want to do some cutting and quilting!    Cutting with my GO cutter is fun!

5 easy things to answer in ONE comment .......and YOU could win a GO cutter!  Wow!
1.  follow my blog..and tell me.
2.  follow me on twitter...and tell me.
3.  become a friend of mine on facebook...and tell me.
4.  GO to AccuQuilt's facebook and become a fan or "like", and tell them "sewfunquilts sent me"...then tell me.
5.  GO to AccuQuilt's website, look at the GO.  Tell me which two features you like about the GO.

Ok..that's it.  Thanks everyone, GO have some fun today, GO read the rules, GO leave your ONE comment to get an entry to win a FREE GO cutter from AccuQuilt.  Good luck.

(I wonder how many time I said the word GO??.....tee hee.  See, GO cutter is fun!)

PURPLE BAG - WORK IN PROGRESS

This is the latest W.I.P. (Work in Progress) I've been doing. These pictures do not do show these purple batik fabrics true to color. I adjusted the camera, but still not correct. Trust me.... they are gorgeous vibrant majestic purple Indonesia batiks.

I am making a special travel tote bag for a good friend of mine who is going to Germany in 10 days and she is a Purple Lover. The embroidered "P" is her initial and will be on the front pocket, and I plan on doing some hand beading too.

So, off the computer and into the sewing room.

Another good day for Quilting!

Today is another good day for just sewing & quilting all day! Love it!

My sister, Sally, left yesterday to go back home to WY and miss her already. My other sister, Jerre, & I went to our Quilting Bee and sewed from 10:30am until about 3pm. She's working on a pretty pink feminine quilt for a new expected Great Grandaughter, and I worked on another new patchwork tote from Moda charmpacks.

The Ebay group I belong to (Quilters' Corner Group) and the Red Tag Sale we are having on Ebay is going great! We have lots of different items on auction and most of it relates to quilting & sewing...and lots of bidding! Hurray!

Go take a look! Put QCG Red Tag Sale in the search box on Ebay and over 85 items will come up for sale. Do some bidding and help us clean out our sewing rooms!

Have a great Thursday today!

It's almost bedtime, but wanted to post the picture of the sewing tweet block I embroidered out yesterday. There's little items that pertain to sewing & quilting; fabric, thread, needle, scissors, thimble & pins. Embroidery Library is going to be creating and selling a different 'tweet' every week this year, and they are so cute. I am thinking about making a quilt with the different ones that are appropriate for me......like a hobby/journal quilt of my different interests.

Quilt Bee was fun today even though there was only 4 of us; still enjoyed it totally. I worked on my Angel BOM blocks and have 2 of them completed except for the detail work of hand embelishments which will be added after it is together; buttons, halos, hair, faces, ribbons, etc. One of the ladies worked on a new Stack & Whack quilt with gorgeous fabrics and a dark purple batik smeary fabric for her backgrounds. We have decided to meet twice a month for 2009, so some UFO'S can be finished by all of us.
