Today was our monthly Tied Together Quilt Bee. It seems like I always take too many UFO projects and end up not getting much done. It couldn't possibly be all the socializing/yakking/laughing/eating......could it?
These quilt tops were already pieced......so I layered and quilted a couple new Batik Table Toppers using 5 inch charm squares.
I like using charm squares from my ETSY Shop and sewing them together for simple quilts. It gives my buyers and beginning quilters ideas on what they can do with just the simple 5 inch square and an easy simple border. Just cut the charm squares in half........sew end to end. The quilting is elongated straight stitch with variagated thread sewn diagnonally across...both directions.
Here's a shot of the backing too.
Different colors
And the binding is cut, pressed and ready for the quilts.......just have to get it sewn on tonight.
Now to my question for you.
I'm thinking of offering these table toppers as Quilt Kits in my Etsy shop. I'm trying to appeal to the beginners so they can sit down with a SEW FUN QUILTS Kit and have some easy, simple sewing fun in a short time frame.
What do you think?
The kits could include; charm squares, borders, corner squares, and binding. Should the kit have the backing fabric too? They would measure approximatley 26" square when finished.
Please tell it like it is......I can take it. I wouldn't have asked you what you think unless I was willing to hear your opinion. AND..........by the way, Thanks a bunch.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I like the idea of a precut kit. Not sure about adding backing, though. Most kits don't come with backing. Good luck with your decision. I love batiks!
ReplyDeleteGreat Batik colors. The charm packs are great for beginners as they might not have a stash of 16 different coordinating fabrics.
ReplyDeleteIf you are marketing towards beginners you may want to offer the kits both ways, with and without backing. Or have backing available to purchase as some online shops do. Many beginners may not have access to a quilt shop where they would be able to purchase backing fabric or they may feel inadequate to select the appropriate fabric.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a good idea. I think I would direct buyers to backing in you store that will work and give the amount they would need to finish it.

ReplyDeleteI think that is a great idea. I am sure the kits would sell. I also don't think I would include the backing. You can keep the price lower so more are willing to buy it.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a great idea. Make up a few and see how fast they sell. Maybe think about adding the backing and batting too. That way the new quilter would have everything they need to complete the project. If I were a beginner, I would like to buy a complete kit.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Judy D in WA !!

ReplyDeleteI think this is a great idea! I would offer both options, or as Linda suggested, sell backing and batting separately. I agree with Judy that a beginner would likely want a complete kit. How about including thread, too?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea ... it is great for the beginner but also for someone more experienced who wants a simple project where they don't have to think about selecting fabric and pattern. I think that offering an option of the backing and batting would make it a terrific kit.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I've bought kits with and without backing, and a complete kit is a great gift for a beginning quilter. I like the ideas already posted about selling with and without batting and backing and let your customers decide! Good luck with this new item in your shop!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I love how the black sets off the colors.....and when I saw that my mind went to so many places.....for come reason you sparked something in the creative side of me.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I think it is a good idea and well..you can always list a few and if it goes well...you have a hit and if not...you know to go on to something else.
You are one busy gal....I need your energy!!
I think it's a good idea. I agree you should offer with or without backing. You might want to look at Keepsake Quilting's catalog to see how they market it for beginners.
