Makeover Time!

My front deck has needed a complete makeover for over a year now.  I've painted it two times myself......but it needed more than just "cover-up make up".  If you don't believe me....just look at these pictures.  I live in a large mobile home and even tho my front deck is covered with a nice roof, the HOT Texas days, and the rainy days we had before our drought played havoc with all the wood.

Time to call out my Hottie Handyman to do some much needed repairs and do a makeover for me.  Remember...he's the same fellow who redid my floors in the kitchen, dining room, laundry room with Pergo flooring here.

Here's the old stairs ......showing a lot of old rotting wood.

  Yikes........what a mess!

And here's the start of the new stairs.....with less pitch/angle to them and much easier to climb.

I'll be sharing the final results in another post.......so stay tuned '
cause it's

almost time for my October Giveaway too.

Where Is She?

I'm sorry I've been a little sparse in blogging this past week.   My sister, Sally,  is here for a wonderful 10 day visit and we've been very busy "playing".

We came home from one of our 'playing'  days yesterday and I couldn't find Roxie, and was looking everywhere.  She loves to hide to take her naps.  Where is she?

My sewing room is sometimes left AS IS and all I do is shut the door, so the cats can't get in there......but guess we were in a hurry yesterday and I didn't close the door.

Here's  what I saw when I looked in the sewing room.

She didn't like it when I woke her up.......either.

"GO away, Mom, and let me sleep".

Guess I'd better remember to close the sewing room today when my sis and I GO
"Run and Play".

Sew Many Giveaways

Have you noticed all the neato Giveaways here lately?  Lots of 'em.  Must be the cooler days and the "giving" time of  year everyone is feeling.

Ya gotta go see the Men Quilt Too! show at Pigtales and Quilts and check out all the gorgeous quilts these men are making and then vote for your fav.  I did this on the very first day I learned about it and look what I won......just for leaving one eensy weensy  comment.

I believe there are really no accidents in life...and this is one of those times when it  proved to be true!  Leah Day is the gal behind this book and she created the Free Motion Quilting Project, and I had just watched several of her videos the week before.   If you aren't already familiar with her videos, you're missing a lot of good info and heap of fun.   Here's a couple of the fun samples I played around with, and still have some ready to go when I get some more time.

Now I just need to find some more time to practice.

=================================================

Another blog that I like to follow is Stray Stitches and she is having her own Giveaway right now for a Fat Quarter bundle sponsored by The Fat Quarter Shop.

And still another Giveaway  at Lily Pad Quilting's blog for a jelly roll, also sponsored by The Fat Quarter Shop.

Well, that ought to keep you busy for a while.....right?

Hope you have fun and please tell them  Sew Fun Quilts sent you when you leave your comments.

My October Giveaway is coming up soon.....so check back.

Sewing Room Explosion

The other day on Facebook I mentioned it looked like a bomb had gone off in my sewing room.

Well......I think there's been more than one!

When I'm on a cutting frenzy with my GO cutter, that's exactly what happens, and I ignore the messes while working until the job is done.   Have you ever watched the famous Eleanor Burns and her demos or attended one of her Quilt In a Day Classes?   She's hilarious and doesn't pay any attention to the messes, and actually just throws the scraps on the floor and over her shoulder.   I actually do clean it up in between explosions, but there were several bombs in a row.  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.   (besides......it's the only excuse that I have.)

Thought I'd give ya'll a partial visual tour of what I'm talking about.  Now you didn't think I'd show the whole sewing room, did you?  No Way!

I use the pages from the many throw-away catalogs I get in the mail to cover my fabrics on the die before rolling through the GO cutter.  It works well, and I end up with perfect quilt squares for my Etsy Shop.

Trash can area.

And with all that cutting, here's my scrap basket that's overflowing; selveges, edges, trimmings, slivers,  etc.  Looks like it's time to make a couple more kitty pillows again and use the scraps for the stuffing.   You can wash & dry them, but last time the pillows got yucky, I just threw them away.

This is just one end of my cutting table with the useable leftovers I need to cut into 2" and 2 1/2" squares.  Ok...I know what you're thinking.  What do the zippers have to do with cutting squares?  I've also been making more zipper bags and just shoved the bin of zippers to the side of the table while I used the GO cutter.

Well......there you have it.  That's what I did over the weekend.

Wonder Why?

Last week I shared with you the progress on my tumbler quilt and I have to tell you.....everything got in the way of my finishing this quilt.  Yikes!  Quilting delays, binding delays, picture delays and even listing it for sale delays.  (Yes, I know...that's not a properly constructed sentence and my HS English teacher would be appalled, but this is "my blog, my keyboard, my post and I'll do it the way I want to do it, so there!".........she says, secretly smiling :) to herself).

Wonder why life happens that way sometimes when all I want to do is sew/quilt??  My sewing room is called Judy's Sandbox and sometimes I refer to it as the Sewing Cave....but I  really love being in there.  Maybe too much.

Okay....enough of my yakking about stuff no one wants to hear about.  It's time for the pictures of the tumbler quilt from Alex Anderson's fabric line called Elizabeth Ann by PandB Textiles.

This is made using the small tumbler GO die, and have to say......it was a lot of fun sorting the different fabrics, re-arranging the rows, etc.  I enjoyed it every step of the way.  Do you think that's why I spent so much time completing this one??   mmmmh??

Full view......and the wind was blowing this morning, and the colors look a bit washed out.

Another view.........this time showing the backing fabric that matches the borders.

I always feel happy and relieved when I finish a quilt, but now I just want to GO to my Sandbox and start working on another one.  Wonder why most people think quilters are so obsessive??  mmmmh??

How about you?  Are you an obsessive quilter like me?
