Gotta Get to Sewing on MY PROJECTS!

I signed up for these wonderful BOM's kits from http://www.fabricsnquilts.com/ and have only started on one of them, and looked at the others.    When am I going to sew on the projects I want to do, instead of "have to do"???

This is the only block that I have started.......shame on me!  And reproduction prints from the 30's are my favorite type of fabrics!

Don't ya just love those prints?  It's not too late to sign up for her BOM's.  Just click on my title to this post to take you to her website.

FIESTA & Bluebonnet Trail Shop Hop

Last weekend was the Bluebonnet Trail Shop Hop and lots of  ooohing ! and Awwwwhing!  (are those really proper words??)  went with it.  Here's a few pictures for ya'll to enjoy it too!

One of our favorite local quilt shops in San Antonio.
Each shop made their own quilt  for the 2010 Quilt for Bluebonnet Trail Shop Hop Design.  They each had their "own personality from each shop".
Here's a different one from a different shop.

One of 10 HUGE gift baskets for the prizes!  Wow!  Plus each shop gives 10 $25 gift certificates.

 Need a new quilt book?

Wonderful inspiration!  Too much to see at one time.

Each shop has an area for relaxing and refreshments.
Normally, this is one of the classrooms..Lots of quilts to drool over!
One of the more popular patterns/designs!
Small wallhanging depicting all the Texas wildflowers spilling from the heart!

A few of the blocks from the quilt block contest.

Shop Hop is over for this year, so it was time to find a good Mexican Restaurant for our dinner!  Fiesta week in San Antonio is this week, so every where you go, you see bright, colorful decorations!

I'll take a strawberry marguerita, please!

I'M STRETCHING A BIT!

Recently I've been "stretching a bit" with my sewing and quilting.  My mind just doesn't let me focus on one thing like piecing quilts, all the time.

This is  a great way to use up leftover pieces of fabrics.  Anyone need a little zipper pouch for stuff??  Just click on the title of this blog to go see 'em.

And...........................  I've got some more of them already cut out.

SHOWING OFF A BIT!

Every quilter, crafter, sewer, needlecrafter knows the joy of sharing her items with others interested in similar things.  I don't belong to a quilt guild anymore to enjoy the  "Bring and Brag" part, so I  share some of my special creations here.  But..........first.....the story.

A few months back I had a request on Etsy from a nice lady to make a  custom satin dolly quilt.   I thought..."oh no...satin?"   We sent emails back and forth a bit, and once I found out it was going to be a gift for her mother-in-law's 80th Birthday, I wanted to try to make it for her.   Apparently her mother in law had been talking about this special dolly she got for one of her birthdays when she was a small girl and how she wished she still had that doll.   (Those of us who are " mature seniors" can all relate to that special doll we had as young girls.  I'm one of the fortunate ones who still has her first doll.)

This wonderful daughter-in-law decided to go on a quest to fulfill this dream of her mother-in-law's.  She found the antique dolly like her mother-in-law talked about on Ebay in very good condition, and she also found a very small antique wicker cradle for it on Ruby Lane's site.   She also sent me a couple of pictures of raggedy looking antique satin dolly quilts.  I finally agreed  to make it for her.

All these items you see are made to fit a  very small  14 1/2" long x 8 1/2" wide cradle (think of a 12" ruler).   I made the tufted mattress and pillow first, then the sheet and pillow case.  My customer wanted the quilt body to be quilted in a diamond grid pattern, have a turn down on it with tiny pink flowers and a ruffle all around and we agreed on ivory colored satin rather than pure white.

Here's the tufted mattress with satin sheet

The mattress with the sheet cover and matching pillow and embroidered pillow case.

Here's the finished quilt and pillow set on the mattress.

Another view of the quilt and pillow without the mattress.  (It has satin on the back too.)

I sure hope there's plenty of tissues available when that 80 yr. old lady unwraps this dolly set  special gift from her loving daughter-in-law.   Maybe I should include a box of tissues when I mail it to her.   What do you think??

Making Progress On My Projects!

Thanks goodness I'm making some progress on finishing up some projects.  I'm very happy with how this custom order bag, key fob, & small cosmetic bag turned out.  I LOVE  doing these special creative bags for ladies who just tell me what  colors they want,  the monogram initial, size, etc......then I can just let the creative juices flow and sew like crazy.  Woo Wee!

Great Fun to meet Barb from Bejeweled Quilts Blog

You meet the nicest people when blogging!    My sister and I had a great opportunity to meet Barbara from Pago-Pago American Samoa this week 'cause she was in San Antonio for a few days.  We met at the Red Robin near Six Flags Fiesta Texas and had such a wonderful time.   She is such fun and pretty too!   She brought us the cutest little bags she made with beautiful tropical fabrics tucked inside.   Thanks, Barb.  Her blog is http://bejeweledquiltsbybarb.blogspot.com/   and if you don't follow her, you are really missing out.

We thought it would be fun to take her fabric shopping, so off we went to Jo-Ann's Super Center to spend some money.

All the pretty silk flowers made a great background for picture taking.  Barb's on the left and my sister, Jerre, on the right.

What a wonderful time we had!  And all thanks to blogging!
