Texas Quilt Show

Some of the gals from our Tied Together Bee went to a Quilt Show in Kerrville, Tx this weekend.   We had a wonderful time seeing all the gorgeous quilts.  Here's some for you to drool over.........., but I'm warning you.....get a napkin to wipe the drool off your keyboard.  Naturally, the pictures don't do them justice!  Lots of variety.......

They are not in any particular order.....just took a few as I was walking up and down the aisles......wonderful show.  Of course, there were lots of quilts with a Texas flavor!

What a Life!

What a life!..................just hanging around.

I like to change my quilts and home decor items for the different holidays, so I have my Valentine - Heart ones out right now.  

Roxie's (she's the cat that the Mama dropped at my feet when she was 4 days old, and I bottle fed her) place of honor is always on the back of my recliner chair, so I keep a small quilt there for her to claim as her own.  It has to be one that I can wash frequently.  

I'll share some better/prettier Valentine quilts than this one in the next couple days, so hope you come back again.

UFO PARTY

If you follow my blog, you've had to notice I've been talking a lot here lately about all of my UFOs.  Maybe I should be talking about Thanksgiving or Christmas or making gifts, but not yet.    My UFOs have taken over my sewing room, and they don't even do anything but just sit there. 

About a month ago I was griping about this to my sister and how I never take the time to work on any of them.   The next day she called and told me she was going to have a small UFO party and scheduled it for November 16th, tomorrow.    Pat Sloan has also been talking a lot about UFO's on her blog.  She has 12 tips for dealing with them.  Maybe I'd better go check it out.


 A UFO party?  What is that?  I don't know.  All I know is my sister said to  bring a couple UFO's and she'll serve lunch. My niece is also attending and bringing a couple of her UFOs.  I sure hope there's chocolate.


Here's just a few of mine.

A long time ago, we quilters learned about using new/clean pizza boxes to keep our projects together whether it was just fabrics & a pattern, cut out kits, or a work in progress.  My..oh my.  These projects in the pizza boxes are stacked on top of one of my shelving units in my sewing room and I can't even remember the last time I looked inside the boxes.   I have to get a step stool to even reach them.

Here's a couple more bins!  And.....I'm not going to tell you how many more bins I have that say the same thing.  I haven't even counted them.   Well, at least they are labeled.

Now I've got to decide which two projects to take.  mmmmmmh?  Can I bring more than two?

I belong to such a nice group of quilters who share the love of their AccuQuilt cutters.  We share with each other, ask for advice, post tips and quilt ideas, etc.  If we run into a problem someone is always there to help us.   Some of them are outstanding and post great tutorials, tips and advice.

If you haven't seen her blog or videos, you are really in for a treat.  She's a great teacher and quilter.

One of my favorite tutorials of hers is the Patience Corners Quilt.  If you love the Disappearing 9 Patch quilt, you're GOing to love this one even more. 

Another easy one is the Rectangle Block Quilt.  On this one she has instructions for both rotary cutting and using the GO cutter.

This is Princess, one of my 3 spoiled cats, that let me live with them. She thinks she's Queen, but alas.........only a Princess! It's a shame you can't see her beautiful fluffy tail in this picture....so pretty, my Princess! All 4 feet have white satin "slippers" on them.

Haven't blogged for a few days, as had some extensive dental work done under anesthesia, and have been living on pain pills and just sitting (sleeping) in my chair, or in bed Still swollen & sore, but don't need the pain pills anymore; just 3 ibuprofen, thank goodness.

Today is better and going to go do some paddling around in the pool this a.m; not vigorously, but just to do some moving around. I amm used to being active, and this sitting, laying stuff is not for me.

SHOP HOP GOODIES!

My sister & I went to 3 quilt shops on our local Bluebonnet Patchwork Shop Hop yesterday and had a good time. There are 12 different quilt shops participating with 3 of them being in the Austin, TX area and 9 of them in the San Antonio area. We hope to go to some more of them on Saturday. For every shop you visit, you get a FREE fat quarter! Here's a picture of the ones I got. Also got a pattern and a couple yards of some unique novelty fabric.

UFO Bites the Dust!

Another UFO bites the dust! I found this quilt top when I was cleaning/sorting/piling things in my sewing room getting ready for our Ebay Quilt Group's next Red Tag Sale...which, by the way...starts March 15th on Ebay. I think the deciding factor in finishing this 6-7 year old quilt top was finding some of the fabric that I could use for the binding.....(light bulb turned on in my head!) Decided to stop sorting, and I cut batting & muslin, and started quilting it.
Did some "free motion" on it!

This is an "Ahhh" moment!


The center buds on the tulips are dimensional, and I used shiny rayon thread for the machine applique.

This one I'm keeping, but there are other quilts for sale in my Ebay store.

RAGGY HORSEY QUILT PROGRESS

I am making good progress on the Raggy Horsey Blue quilt, so thought I'd share another picture of it. Just have to do a BUNCH of clipping, wash, dry and can list it on Ebay soon. Be watching for it.
This afternoon I am making more raggy square sammies of a pretty yellow flower quilt, and will start sewing them this evening. Stay tuned for pictures of it.

Here's a picture of one my cats, Roxie, who insists on being one of my quilt assistants! I bottle fed her before her eyes were even open, and she makes sure she is right beside me regardless of what I am doing.

Fun Day with my 2 Sisters!

Fun Day with my 2 Sisters today!

Okay, so we had some errands to do today, but last on the list was the fun one.......MEMORIES BY THE YARD Quilt Shop...right here in San Antonio. It's my favorite shop and just had to take my Wyoming sister to see it and also pick up my Angel BOM.

Didn't want my Brother In Law to be bored & disturb her pleasure, so I stopped & got him a big coffee and a newspaper, as I knew there was a place for him to sit in the shop. They have a cute section in the store with the old fashioned "ice cream shop" tables & chairs. He was quite content while the "3 sisters" shopped 'cause the owner of the store got him a piece of German Chocolate cake to go with his coffee. They really know how to treat the husbands/men right....so us gals can shop, shop, shop!

We had a great time........and no better way to be together! Quilts, fabrics, sisters. Now, that's a great combination!

A QUILT POEM TO SHARE

This is a poem I received from a quilting friend, and thought it was a great one to share on my blog.

I THINK GOD IS A QUILTER

I think God is a quilter

Who takes His needle and thread

To piece our world from nothingness

And give it form , instead.

I think God is a quilter

And everything I see

Are pieces from His careful hand

From tree to bumblebee.

I think we see God's stitches

His texture everywhere;

The velvet moss, the grainy sand,

The silk strands of hair.

I think God is a quilter

Stitching tight and tiny rows,

Adding to my scraps and pieces

Seaming everything He knows.

I think He cuts the patterns

From what I'd throw away.

He shows me how to use each scrap

in His redeeming way.

I think God guilts a pattern

From everything I live;

But He can only stitch the quilt

From what I choose to give.

I think God is a quilter

Stitching strength where I am weak.

Sewing Expo Was Great!

The Sewing Expo yesterday was a lot of fun and it did just what it was supposed to do.....it got the creative juices going for me with great inspirational ideas for new quilts, scenes, purses, jackets, and lots of embroidery work! Can hardly wait to make this new cape jacket and new purse pattern I bought....yippee!! Cindy Losekamp is one of my FAVORITE designers and I bought her book Serenity Landscapes & CD and she was there to sign it for me. I have a few of her other books & CD designs and have had such fun with them. She is one creative lady, for sure!





Came home & worked on the Angel BOM quilt and did some machine applique stitches on it. Have more work to do on it. Then I embroidered two dish towels for my niece's birthday on Sunday.

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my Blog!

This is my first post and I would like to invite you to come on in, pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and visit for a while.

It might take me a while to get the hang of this, but am determined to do it, so that's half the battle.

Lots of fun quilting/sewing projects going on right now and am starting 2009 out with finishing up some UFO'S and experimenting with others, working on my Ebay store listings, & making lists of everything I want to accomplish. I only hope that I can cross lots of things off that list as the days fly by.

So far for the year, I have completed one Star BOM, worked on the Angel BOM, completed an Easter wallhanging leftover from last year, made a new patchwork tote & my sister promptly claimed it, embroidered out more lacey snowflakes for an Ebay store order, and embroidered out 6 huge designs for Valentine throw pillows with 5 of them finished.

In the next couple days, I will be cutting out many fleece sock/slippers for all my family living in cold snowy Indiana and sewing them totally with the serger. Are any of you familiar with the fleece socks/slippers I am talking about??
