I'm Constantly Making More Cutting Messes!

Here I am again, cutting, cutting....making more messes!

This time it's for our Tied Together Quilt Bee meeting this Tuesday, February 2nd.  This is our first meeting of 2010 and we're starting out with a new group project.

We are going to be sewing and swapping Disappearing Nine Patch blocks using up "some" of our scrap fabrics.  Please notice I said "some" as I don't think I'll ever totally be out of or run out of scraps 'cause I keep creating them.   Someone else told me that our fabric scraps "reproduce overnight" and I believe it.

We will be doing our cutting of the 5" squares at home, then sew the 9 patch blocks only on our Bee days.  We agreed there will be no sewing of these blocks at home.  This might take some time, as we are planning on only meeting once a month this year.  But we did agree on meeting for a longer time this year; from 10am until 4pm, so that gives us 5 hours of sewing taking into consideration lunch & clean-up time.

We won't be trading complete 9 patch scrappy blocks.  We will cut our 9 patch scrappy blocks like the D9P process and be trading quarters of our blocks.  This will really give us a great variety and great look for our finished quilts.

Years ago our Bee did a Bull's Eye swap this way and also traded raggy Heart Patch quilt blocks this way.  If you want to see my raggy heart one, go back a couple posts and look for my Valentine Heart pillow picture.  The raggy heart quilt is on the couch, and I always use it for Valentine's Day.

I'll try to post a couple pictures every month to show you are progress.  In the meantime, back to making more mess.

What's a Quilter To Do? Help!

Help me!  I've fallen into my  fabric scraps and can't get out!   What's a quilter to do when she saves every little scrap, snip, selveges, tiny piece, even thread ends???

I  save all the little tiny ends, scraps, snips and tiny trims of batting & put them into this big plastic bag.

When the bag is overflowing, like it is now, I make  pet beds out of fleece or an old pillow case, stuff it with these scraps & donate it to the Animal Shelter.  They are in constant need for beds for the pets awaiting adoption.  They are fully washable and dryable and my 3 cats love 'em!

What do you do with your tiny bits, trimmed edges, too small scraps & selveges??

My box for the larger size scraps is over-flowing too, so it's time to work on some scrappy, crazy pieced quilt blocks using the string quilt method.

Here's some other stuff I've been working on too; cutting, cutting, cutting squares -- 30's Reproduction Prints...my favorite of all favorites.

I just listed these quilt squares in my etsy store:

What great stories this lady writes & so cute the way she intertwines her events & stories with other Etsian's stores.

I was thrilled to hear that she included my Kitty Cat Dishtowels in her cute story.

Completing some UFO'S

Again, I am trying to complete some UFO's that have been lying around for ages.  So, I thought I'd share a couple of them with you.

This purple pansy watercolor heart wallhanging was just a top for several years.  I totally enjoyed doing the quilting on it, and  now, it's for sale in my Etsy store.  Sure felt good to finish it.

This one is definitely a  step out of my COMFORT ZONE and  the next one on my list of UFO's to get finished.

Some of the embroidery designs are from
one of Jenny Haskins's books, Aquamarine Ambience.  She & her son do such amazing work!

Wish me luck on it, as the satin is sure
slippery!

Maybe I should show you a close up of some of them.

What have you been doing today...trying to stay warm??

HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone!

I'm back from spending the Holidays with two of my grown kids & their families who live in Indiana.  Had a marvelous time, lots of good food, fun games with my grandkids, puzzles, playing Wii, going to movies, laughter & love.  It was perfect.

I sure didn't know that I was going to be bringing back all the cold/freezing temperatures from Indiana to Texas.  They must have snuck into my suitcase when I wasn't looking.

Now, it's back to work; focusing on the New Year, some resolutions (naturally)  and many plans for new items in my Etsy store.
